Present business-critical information in one central location. Create live, interactive business intelligence (BI) portals that assemble and display business information from disparate sources by using integrated BI capabilities such as dashboards, Web Parts, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business data connectivity technologies. Centralized Report Center sites give users a single place to find the latest spreadsheets, reports, or KPIs.
Quickly connect people with information. Enterprise Search in Office SharePoint Server 2007 incorporates people and business data along with documents and Web pages to provide more comprehensive results. The Search Center provides a single integrated location for employees to find content, processes, people, and business data relevant to their specific needs. This enables people and organizations to make decisions based on the latest information and facts more quickly.
Share business data broadly while helping to protect sensitive information. Excel Services running on Office SharePoint Server 2007 provides access to data and analytics in real time, interactive Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheets from a Web browser. Use these spreadsheets to maintain and efficiently share one centralized and up-to-date version while helping to protect any sensitive or proprietary information embedded in documents (such as financial models).
Take advantage of your unstructured business networks to drive better decisions. Employees can use new knowledge management tools to get the most from their powerful unstructured business networks, both inside and outside their organizations, thereby connecting with people more quickly and efficiently. By exploring these undocumented business relationships and finding subject-matter experts, individuals are able to make better decisions more quickly.

      Re: Improve business insight

Using that same analogy, the material in this book could be described as "mega-brain marketing." The information is a detailed description of how to engage in intelligent and user focused marketing strategies, the kind that leads to success in the modern world. In fact, the kind that is necessary in the modern world.
The chapter titles provide a brief description of the steps to follow in order to make marketing your internal/external killer app.

*) Open your mind to new marketing
*) Four principles supporting the marketing capability
*) Building blocks of the new marketing capability
*) Translating insights into innovation for brand financial growth
      *) Measuring consumer engagement
*) Dispatches from the leading edge of the new marketing
*) Integration of technology and marketing
*) Open innovation and new product development through communities of practice
*) Brand building through global brand growth
*) Growth through brand portfolio and risk management
*) Insights-led brand building in technology
      *) Marketing knowledge centers
*) The New CMO (Chief Marketing Officer)
      *) Managing Information
*) Metrics and building the culture of accountability
*) Communities of practice for consumer connection and open innovation
*) Empowering change from the top down

If the marketing people where I used to work had read and applied the information in this book, I would have led the applause rather than curse them.

            Re: Improve business insight

            Hello

            1. Plan ahead but be open to change
It is vital that you have a well thought-out business plan that is regularly reviewed, with key members of your team, so that you can adapt to circumstances. By keeping a****** of changes in the marketplace you can prioritise the changes you need to make to your business plan. Focus on those with the greatest potential benefits, not the easiest to implement.

            2. Keep in touch with the market
You’ll need to take a regular look at competitors’ offerings to ensure your products and services retain their edge. You can do this by talking to customers and suppliers, and networking at trade events and online. Valuable information can also be gathered by getting online and seeing what people are saying about both you and the competition.

            3. Lead from the front
An agile business needs a strong leader who can manage from the top down while demonstrating that they are in touch with what is happening at a grassroots level. Good leaders need to inspire their teams, effectively communicate their vision and show that they are listening to customers, suppliers and staff. They also know when to delegate tasks to the experts.

            4. Get help where you need it
Don’t expect to tackle areas outside of your expertise. If you want to export to new markets, find people who have experience in that market – and look at potential partnerships that will enable you to achieve your ambitions. Use freelancers and consultants where appropriate.

            5. Invest in your people
You cannot succeed in business if your staff’s skills are not up to speed. Where staff need new skills provide training or coaching to get them up to speed. Encourage an ‘I can’ attitude. For example some companies should consider training their staff so that they can multi-task in several areas – useful to cover annual leave and sickness in small companies.

              Re: Improve business insight

              Hello
              Email invoices

Most people have email addresses and they check their email frequently. If people receive a bill in the mail it may take them a few days to open it. Bills received in the mail are easier to ignore.

Invoices received over email get seen by the owner and they are more likely to act on it. Emailed invoices are also more environmentally friendly so they are difficult for businesses to refuse

Write detailed descriptions on your invoices

Many customers dispute invoices – often just to delay payment.

Use the description field in your invoicing system to write a full account of what you did. This reduces the ability for someone to dispute a bill and they can see all the things you did in the time spent.

Providing a detailed description of your work allows the customer to see the value they received, and they’ll feel better about paying.

              Setting your own payment terms

It’s convention that people pay their bills on the 20th of the following month, or 30 days after invoice, but you invent any payment terms you like. Set the payment terms before you provide the goods or services.

Put your payment terms on your website, on quotes sent out and make sure the terms are clearly set out on your invoice template.

You might say: “Please pay on invoice” or “Payment required within 7 days” or “Payment is due on completion”.

Don’t feel bad about being paid quickly. Essentially you’re funding your customers business until you get paid.

Encourage direct payment to your bank account

Many business owners get annoyed when invoices are received without bank payment details. That means they need to write a cheque, label an envelope, find a stamp and put it in the mail. Often they just park the invoice.

If a customer is having cashflow problems they may send you a cheque knowing that they’ve bought themselves a few days. Cheques you receive cost you time and money to process.

Always put your bank account details on your invoices so that your customers can pay you easily and quickly.
